Manage Unsubscribed Customers
Spam Act 2003
Spam Act 2003 and the Spam Regulations require that Square sellers who send Square Marketing emails must have explicit permission from the person who will receive them. Sellers must allow recipients to opt out of future emails, including giving customers the option to opt out of all campaigns you send. If a customer unsubscribes from further Square Marketing emails from your business, they’ll be automatically removed from all campaigns (including upcoming scheduled campaigns).
Under Australia’s spam laws, it's up to you to prove that you received a person's permission to send marketing messages.
If a customer has requested to be manually unsubscribed:
Go to Customers > Customers from your online Square Dashboard.
Locate the customer who wants to unsubscribe.
Click ••• then click Unsubscribe Email.
Click Confirm.
Note: Customers can only be unsubscribed using the above method. If a customer wants to resubscribe, refer to the customer information collection tools.
Square Marketing Pricing
The Square Marketing subscription fee is based on the total number of subscribed customers, so it's best practice to review your Email Subscriber list regularly and remove customers that don't engage with your emails.

Export Customer List
If you export your customer list to a different service, like MailChimp or Constant Contact, you’ll need to make sure customers who opted out from your campaigns are also removed from those services’ lists. In these cases, you can view the subscription status for manually added customers by exporting your customer directory to a CSV file.
To do so:
Go to Customers > Customers from your online Square Dashboard.
Click Directory.
Click Export Customers and choose to export All Customers or Specific Groups.
Click Export.
A CSV file will download to your computer, which you can open using Excel or another common spreadsheet software. The spreadsheet shows information from customers who were manually assigned to a transaction or who were manually imported via your dashboard. If customers opt out of your emails, their email subscription status will display as Unsubscribed under the "Email Subscription Status" column.
Note: The spreadsheet will not include customer names automatically collected from transactions swiped through the newest version of the Square Reader. This information will only show in the Transactions tab of your online Square Dashboard.
