Who is this article for?
  • Team members with access to the Square Payroll employee dashboard.
  • Full-service Square Payroll subscribers.
  • About Square Payroll for team members

Square Payroll allows you to get paid easily and manage your own information online or through the Square Team App on your mobile device. To create your account as an employee or contractor, you need your personal information and bank account details on hand.

    Before you begin

Employers must first invite team members to create their account before they can self-onboard to payroll. An invitation to create a Square account is sent when the team member is added to Square self-onboarding, and an Onboard to Payroll task is assigned to the team member when the employer adds the team member to Payroll.

Make sure to have your personal information (like mailing address and phone number) and your bank account information ready.

If you are setting up your account as an employee (not a contractor), make sure you have the following available:

    • Federal filing status (like single, married, or married filing separately)

    • Total allowances from your W-4

    • Additional withholding, if applicable

    • State filing status and allowances, if applicable

Set up your Square Payroll employee dashboard

    1. When you receive your invitation via email or SMS message, select Accept invitation to go to the sign-in page.

    2. Create a password for your account and select Continue.

    3. Select Review profile to view your personal passcode.

    4. Select Add payroll info to enter your information.

    5. Enter your personal information. For Contact Information, toggle on any notifications you want to receive. Select Continue.

    6. Enter your bank account details. If you prefer, you can split your direct deposit check to two different bank accounts based on a set percentage of your paycheck by adding a second bank account to the Linked accounts tab. If you don’t currently have a valid bank account, you cannot receive direct deposit through Square Payroll. If this is the case, let your employer know that you will need to receive paper checks.

    7. Select Done.

You can now explore your Square Payroll employee dashboard, which will have your pay stubs once you receive your first paycheck through Square Payroll.
