    With Square Payroll, you can set your payroll to run automatically so your employees are paid on time every pay period without you having to log in to your Square Dashboard.

    On the day payroll is due, Square Payroll automatically processes your payroll at 5 PM PT by importing your team's timecards, plus tips and commissions if tip importing or commission tracking is being used.

    You’ll get a confirmation email that contains all the relevant details about the pay run, including the number of employees paid and total gross pay.

    Before you begin

    You can set up automatic payroll and review the payroll run from your Square Dashboard.

    You need to have already manually processed payroll at least once before setting up automatic payroll.

    Automatic payroll is finalized at 7 PM PT on the day your payroll is set to run. If anything seems off, you have until 7 PM PT the same day to cancel the pay run and make any changes. If you cancel an automatic pay run, you’ll need to manually process your payroll. Automatic payroll will resume for your next pay period.

    Set up automatic payroll

    1. Sign in to your Square Dashboard and select Staff & payroll > Payroll > Settings.

    2. Toggle on Run payroll automatically.

    3. Select Save.

    You can remove automatic payroll at any time from this screen by toggling off Run payroll automatically.

    Cancel an automatic payroll run

    1. Sign in to your Square Dashboard and select Staff & payroll > Payroll.

    2. Select Cancel Pay run.
