Create a floor plan
About floor plans
A floor plan is a map of your restaurant’s physical seating area and helps you manage the flow of customers and checks during service. In addition to sections helping manage the flow of service, you can also access restaurant-specific reporting that tracks the performance of the different sections of your restaurant–for example, sales at the bar vs in the dining room.
With Square for Restaurants, you can have multiple floor plans; for example, you might use one layout during lunch service, and a different layout during dinner service.
Before you begin
You can create a floor plan, add sections to it and design your floor plan from your Square Dashboard. Sections are groupings of tables that can represent the different areas within your restaurant layout, like Dining Room, Bar and Outdoor Patio.
You can access your floor plan from the Square for Restaurants app.
Step 1. Create your floor plan
Sign in to your Square Dashboard and click Settings > Device Management, then click Floor Plans.
Click Create a Floor Plan.
Enter your Floor Plan Name and select a Location (if you only have one location, it will be selected by default), then click Done.
Click Save.
Step 2. Add sections to your floor plan
Once your floor plan is created, you can add sections to it.
Sign in to your Square Dashboard and click Settings > Device Management, then click Floor Plans.
Click on your floor plan name under your location name.
Click Add a New Section.
Enter your Section Name and add details about the tables. You can determine whether to give your tables Custom Table Names or Automatic Table Names based on your section name, enter an optional Label, and select the Number of Tables.
Click Done, then Save.
Step 3. Design your floor plan
Once your sections are created, you can design your floor plan to help you manage the flow of service via table mapping in the Square for Restaurants app.
Sign in to your Square Dashboard and click Settings > Device Management, then click Floor Plans.
Click on your floor plan name under your location name.
Click on your table names under the relevant section names.
Once your tables are added to your floor plan, you can click each one to move a table, change the size and shape of a table to mirror your restaurant’s physical layout.
Select a table and click on the trash can icon to remove a table from a floor plan. Deleting a table on the floor plan layout will not delete the data.
Complete your floor plan and click Save.
