Set up and manage Square Assistant

  • About Square Assistant

    Square Assistant is an automated tool that helps you manage your business and customer communications. For example, Square Assistant can send SMS appointment reminders. Once received, your customers can confirm, reschedule, or cancel upcoming appointments without having to contact you directly. Square Assistant will then automatically update your Square Appointments calendar to save you time managing your appointments.

    Before you begin

    You can enable Square Assistant at any time from Square Dashboard or Square Appointments.

    By default, Square Assistant is enabled for most merchants in Square Appointments. This feature is only available for merchants with online booking.

    To have the best experience using Square Assistant on a mobile device, make sure to use a compatible device running the latest version of any Square POS app.

    Enable Square Assistant

    Square Dashboard

    1. Log in to Square Dashboard, then click More from Square > Messages.
    2. Click the Settings icon.
    3. Under Square Assistant, toggle on Enable Square Assistant.
    4. Click Save.

    Square Appointments

    1. Log in to Square Dashboard, then click Payments > Appointments.
    2. Under Settings, click Communications > Square Assistant.
    3. Toggle on Square Assistant, then click Save.

    Disable Square Assistant

    1. Log in to Square Dashboard, then click More from Square > Messages.
    2. Click the Settings icon.
    3. Under Square Assistant, toggle off Enable Square Assistant.
    4. Click Save.

    Square Appointments

    1. Log in to Square Dashboard, then click Payments > Appointments.
    2. Under Settings, click Communications > Square Assistant.
    3. Toggle off Square Assistant, then click Save.

    Manage Square Assistant

    You can manage your settings to disable Square Assistant or to turn on other settings such as Do not disturb.

    Square Dashboard

    1. Navigate to Messages, then click the gear icon.
    2. Under Square Assistant, toggle off Enable Square Assistant.
    3. Click Save.

    To enable or disable do not disturb:

    1. Navigate to Messages, then click the Settings icon.
    2. Under Do not disturb, toggle it off or on.
    3. Click Save.

    Square Appointments

    1. From your Square Appointments Overview page, navigate to Settings.
    2. From the Settings menu, navigate to Communications > Square Assistant.
    3. Toggle off Square Assistant, then click Save.

    To enable or disable do not disturb:

    1. From your Square Appointments Overview page, navigate to Settings.
    2. From the Settings menu, navigate to Communications > Square Assistant.
    3. Under Do not disturb, toggle it off or on.
    4. Click Save.
    Customers can also use Square Assistant to unsubscribe from your business notifications. If they text STOP, Square will stop delivering SMS notifications on your behalf.
