Route orders to the kitchen with Square KDS and Square for Restaurants

  • About routing orders

    Routing orders from different order sources to your Square KDS increases your staff’s efficiency to prep orders with the relevant order information available for each kitchen station.

    Before You Begin

    Download the Square KDS app on an Android tablet.

    You can set up order routing from your Square Dashboard and Square KDS app. You have two options for routing orders to your Square KDS:

    • Route orders from Square POS devices

    • Route online orders

    Square KDS is only available on Android tablets.

    Option 1: Route orders from multiple POS devices

    Route orders from multiple points of sale

    You can set up your Square KDS to filter which Square POS devices (with Square Point of Sale and Square for Restaurants) to show incoming tickets.

    Square Dashboard

    1. Sign in to your Square Dashboard and click Settings > Device Management, then click Devices.
    2. Select your device then, next to Assigned device profiles, click Manage.
    3. Select Routing > Source & fulfillment.
    4. Toggle ON View point of sale orders.
    5. Select Edit next to Receives orders from.
    6. Toggle ON which points of sale send orders to this kitchen display.
    7. Click Save.

    Square KDS app

    1. Open your Square KDS app and tap Settings > View all settings.
    2. Tap Routing > Source & fulfillment.
    3. Toggle ON View point of sale orders.
    4. Tap Edit next to Receives orders from.
    5. Toggle ON which points of sale send orders to this kitchen display.
    6. Tap Save.

    Option 2: Route online orders 

    You can set up your Square KDS to filter online orders to show incoming tickets.

    Square Dashboard

    1. Sign in to your Square Dashboard and click Settings > Device Management, then click Devices.
    2. Select your device then, next to Assigned device profiles, click Manage.
    3. Select Routing > Source & fulfillment.
    4. Toggle ON View online, kiosk and delayed fulfillment orders.
    5. Click Save.

    Square KDS app

    1. Open your Square KDS app and tap Settings > View all settings.
    2. Tap Routing > Source & fulfillment.
    3. Toggle ON View online, kiosk and delayed fulfillment orders.
