Square for Restaurants Pricing

The Square for Restaurants monthly subscription cost is determined by the number of active locations and devices running the Restaurants POS app. There are three simple plans for Square for Restaurants:

  • Square for Restaurants Free - Unlimited devices. Unlimited locations.

  • Square for Restaurants Plus - For each location accessing Restaurants Plus, there is a $129 per month, per location on unlimited devices. This subscription fee is charged on the first of every month, with a 30-day free trial.

  • Square for Restaurants Premium - Custom pricing is available if you process more than $250k in card processing per year. Contact our Sales Team to learn more.

Locations & Devices

Your subscription pricing is the same across all locations on your account. For example, if one location has a subscription for Square for Restaurants Plus, then another location for the same account will not have access to the Restaurants Free Plan.

By default, unless you are still in your free 30-day trial period, if you have an active Square for Restaurants Plus subscription you will be charged for at least one location. Any additional locations with a registered Square for Restaurants device – such as a POS or a Kitchen Display System – will incur in a corresponding additional monthly fee.

You can manage your device settings and subscriptions from your online Square Dashboard.

Here are some examples of the billing structure with Square for Restaurants Plus:

Fees

When you tap, insert, or swipe a customer’s card through the Square for Restaurants app, you'll pay the following processing fees depending on the hardware and payment type:

1.6% card present rate applies for Square Sellers who sign up on or after 30 May 2024, or sellers who signed up prior to this date using Square Terminal or Square Register. The rate of 1.9% will apply for all other Square Sellers who signed up prior to this date when using Square Reader, Square Stand or Tap to Pay, as listed in the Square Fee Schedule.

Afterpay and Square for Restaurants

Overview

With Square for Restaurants and Afterpay, customers to pay for in person transactions in four instalments over six weeks.

  • If you’re eligible, you can accept Afterpay payments in store via your Square for Restaurants POS app.
  • Afterpay in-person is available with Square for Restaurants Free, Plus and Premium plans.
  • For all transactions, merchants get paid in full – immediately.

Afterpay Pricing

Square sellers using Afterpay get paid the full amount at the time of purchase, minus a processing fee on the total order. Enabling Afterpay with Square is free — there are no monthly fees or startup costs. You only pay when you make a sale for in-person transactions. There are no processing fees charged on the remaining instalments or if your customer makes a late payment.

Afterpay in-person processing fee is 6% + 30¢ (excluding GST) per sale.

Note: Afterpay rates are fixed and do not vary by subscription type, hardware, or custom pricing.

Enable or Disable Afterpay

You can go to Payment Methods to enable or disable Afterpay at any time.

Note: The setting for In-person payments with Afterpay is global and applies across all Square products that can also take Afterpay payments in-person. This includes other online platforms such as Square Point of Sale, Square Appointments, Square for Retail and Virtual Terminal. There isn’t a way to enable/disable Afterpay only for Square for Restaurants at this time.

To access your customer code:

  1. Sign in to your Square account.

  2. Go to https://squareup.com/help/contact.

  3. Follow the prompts in the contact panel to see your 12 digit customer code listed.
