Square and Devices with Known Issues
Learn which devices have compatibility issues with Square hardware and software.
Note:The list below doesn’t include all unsupported devices.
ANDROID TABLETS | Known Issues |

Google Nexus 7 | The first generation Google Nexus 7 tablet isn’t compatible with the Square Reader. With updated firmware, the second generation Nexus 7 tablet (released August 2013) is supported. |
Nook HD and Nook HD+ | These devices aren’t compatible with Square Reader, but you can manually enter card payments. |
HTC DEVICES | Known Issues |

HTC EVO 3D | If you encounter any issues, follow these steps: Open the Square app > insert the reader > tap the home button > adjust the phone volume up/down > re-open the app. |
HTC EVO Design 4G | To make sure the device is compatible, update your device to the newest firmware version. |
HTC Incredible | If you notice that the Square app fails after updating, delete and reinstall the app. See Google Support for instructions. |
- HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE - HTC One SV - HTC One VX | These devices aren’t currently supported with the Square Reader, but you can manually enter payments. |

- Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0 - Samsung Moment | These devices aren’t currently supported with Square Reader, but you can use them to manually enter payments. |
Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 | The cellular version of this tablet isn’t supported with Square Reader, but you can manually enter payments. |
Samsung Galaxy (Black) Tab 4 | Only the Samsung Galaxy (Black) Tab 4, 10.1 is supported with Square. All other versions of this tablet aren’t compatible. Note: The white Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 is not supported. |
- Galaxy Tab E - Galaxy S5 Active - Galaxy Tab 4 - Galaxy S5 (AT&T) - Galaxy Tab E (AT&T) - Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2” - Galaxy Tab 4 10.1” | The Square app will not work when a USB On the Go (OTG) adaptor is connected to one of these devices. |
